Constant Velocity and Relative Motion

PW and DC decided to focus on displacement, velocity, and the constant velocity model. PW thinks (DC agrees) that the notes for relative motion are good enough.

Pre-lecture Video

Anchor in the motion of an asteroid far from other objects.

  1. Draw setup (two locations, two times)
    1. Displacement (sketch and write words and symbols)
    2. Convert to predicting (demonstrate with plot)
  2. No mention of the rate at which this occurs
    1. Define average velocity (discuss why average?)
    2. Convert to prediction (demonstrate with plot)
  3. Going from average to instantaneous
    1. Where's the “conceptual” calculus? You will deal with that in class together
  4. First model - constant velocity model
    1. Average equals instantaneous
